For many , Freedom Fighter Bree Newsome is an extremist . To me , she's bad a** black woman whose efforts to eradicate oppression is most legendary in my eyes. As I woke up this morning , I seen alerts from twitter telling me today's trending topic...
My initial response was along the lines of "Oh lord" , but after watching THE courageous Bree climb the pole to release the flag that waves high in front of the SC capital building , I screamed " YES LAWD". Her words were even more powerful than her actions :
"You come against me with hatred , oppression and violence . I come against you in the name of God. This flag comes down today "
This is truly one for the books . Not only did Bree display her carefree black girl magic , but she's showed the world that you can make a change in any capacity. Whether your calling is in the kitchen making dinners for those on the front line or climbing great heights to remove symbols or hatred (literally) , you have the ability to make change. She stated proudly as she prepared to be arrested that she knew what the repercussions of her actions were and that she was wiling to do so in the name of justice.
Disturbingly enough , our battle is only half-won . Moments later , the flag was placed back on the pole.
In a place where injustices towards black faces are reoccurring , we are forced to embrace a flag that stands for hierarchy and the history of our oppression. She has definitely inspired me to fight in anyway I can against the powers formed against my people.
No well-behaved woman has ever made history.
