Yes. I'm talking about feminism. The multi faceted taboo . LOL
Since my discovery of my own feminism , I've realized that there is so much hate for a movement that began to combat these things. Though I don't agree with all women and their choices doesn't make me any less a feminist and though I don't disagree with others doesn't make me lost / a hippie / an enabler of all things. I think the main misconception of feminism comes from people who are one track minded. Never in the history of feminism has there been one solid definition of what the movement stands for. Even in my research , I found that there was no one way to solidify all that this F word stands for.
A brief lesson Feminism began in the 1840's , at that time women ( who were white) came together for several reasons for example , 1. Abolition of Slavery 2.Temperance
Since then , the movement has separated into 3 different waves , one of which I more closely identify with . 1st Wave Feminism : 1848-1920 when women were satisfied with the right to vote.
For long , women's right to the governments decisions were left to the husbands.
2nd Wave Feminism : Discussed Social issues that impacted all women , hence the famous quote " The personal is political" . Women were now ( Remember , still white women) coming out of the kitchen mad as hell about the restricting conditions of just being a cooking , cleaning , baby making sex machine ( the discovery of postpartum- I recommend reading 'The Feminine Mystique' ) . Issues of the workplace , often ignored because well...its not the kitchen of their suburban home. Hmm. There's the Roe Vs. Wade Case and oh ? A woman is now able to get credit without her man? nice. That's not even half of it.
3rd Wave Feminism : Well ..that's where the new school comes in . New Issues. Primarily , Black Women . Where do we fit ? This is also like , the more radical of em' all. * Inserts self here* Black women realized that though the first wave worked diligently to abolish slavery , we as black women lost our voice . Identity politics are onset , causing women to define their place in the movement by outlining essential issues that they had in common. This was the onset of Black Feminism and Womanism- because they thought they was finna' exclude our struggle. Inter-section-ality
Now how is something like this so bad ? I will never know . I don't think you know either. I've heard things like :
"Black women shouldn't be feminists" My response : sitchoa**down ! Black women have been beaten just as black men have , from slavery into today . After we were freed , some men had the bright idea that masculinity and being the "head" meant acting like a slave master . You'll have to do your own research on PTSLAVESyndrome. The lack of dominance that a slave man had over his wife was reason enough to go full throttle after it was all "over". Back to the point : Black women should be allowed to freely cape for themselves , just as we do you , black man.
"Feminists wan't to be equal so bad , but cry when they are hit" Yes of course. Hitting =Pain. If I knocked you out you'd be mad too. HOWEVER , hitting someone is a sign of dominance , all of which women have worked so hard to eradicate.
"Feminists are dumb" LMAO. Go read a book , let things penetrate your mind before you regurgitate nonsense.
I say all of this to say.
Ladies: Before you cape for men who victim shame , harass , tell us not to love ourselves , set standards for our beauty , tell us WHO we are to be...search yourself. Every time I see a woman oppose feminism I laugh because I can name one thing I've already observed about her that makes her well , like me . I'm not sure if you enjoy being a patriarchal princess but , stop . Fellas : I will twerk - and tell you "NO" I don't wanna dance I will wear short skirts - that does not give you permission to touch me I will marry someone someday that doesn't mind that marriage =/= selling my soul. I will tell a black man when he is dead ass wrong - no , i'm not tryna kick him while he is down . I will be who I want to be without your permission or standard. For as long as i'm defending your black behind...you better learn some respect . :) Love ya. So. I will say the F bomb. Be the F Bomb. I will even get the shirt made. FEMINIST FEMINIST FEMINIST FEMINIST .
